About the Suzuki method

The Suzuki education method combines instrumental teaching with fostering the development of the character. It uses what Dr Suzuki called the 'Mother tongue method' to immerse the child in music from a very early age, using repetition to train the ear and motivate progress. The child is taught in a nurturing and loving environment, with a parent as 'Assistant Teacher' in the home. Group lessons are a key part of Suzuki teaching, where children learn in groups to play with others, and gain extra motivation and inspiration from listening to more advanced students.

“Musical ability is not an inborn talent but an ability which can be developed. Any child who is properly trained can develop musical ability just as all children develop the ability to speak their mother tongue. The potential of every child is unlimited.” Dr Suzuki
